The Government of Samoa announced this week the appointment of Pulotu Lyndon Chu Ling as Chief Executive Officer of its Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Labour.
The announcement was made by the Minister of Commerce, Industry and Labour, Hon. Lautafi Fio Selafi Purcell.
After the announcement, Chu Ling told a Samoa Observer reporter, “I am grateful for the opportunity to serve the people of Samoa and that the glory be to God for making it possible.”
In addition to Chu Ling’s employment, he volunteers as a lay leader in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormons).
As president of the Church’s Upolu Samoa Malie Stake, Chu Ling provides leadership and counselling to around 2,000 Latter-day Saints in the Malie area.
There are 20 Latter-day Saint stakes in Samoa. Each stake is composed of several wards (congregations).
Chu Ling balances his time as a church leader along with his employment service in the Samoa Public Service where he has been employed for some 20 years.
He is married to Sauimalae Malolo Chu Ling who is the Finance Manager at the Samoa Service Centre of the Church. The Chu Lings are both high achievers in their respective fields of expertise. They are parents to six boys, two of whom are currently attending the National University of Samoa. Their eldest son is studying in his final year at The University of the South Pacific in Fiji.
Spending quality time together as a family is a priority for the couple.
Chu Ling was educated at Samoa College, National University of Samoa, University of the South Pacific, the University of Adelaide, and the University of Victoria.
The appointment as CEO with the Ministry of Commerce is for three years, during which time he will be responsible for a number of assignments, including that of lead advisor to the Cabinet Minister.
